Thank you for your interest in submitting to the Nigerian Dental Journal, the official publication of the Nigerian Dental Association. We are committed to publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed research that advances dental and oral health in Nigeria and globally.
Please read the following guidelines carefully before preparing your manuscript.
1. Editorial Policies
Before submitting, we strongly recommend that you review our full Journal Policies page , which includes details on:

2. Article Types Accepted
The Nigerian Dental Journal welcomes:
- Original Research
- Review Articles
- Case Reports
- Technical Notes (surgical techniques, innovations)
- Letters to the Editor
All submissions must be relevant to dentistry and allied health professions.
3. Authorship and AI
- Authorship: We follow the COPE authorship criteria. All listed authors must have contributed significantly to the work.
Authorship_DiscussionDocument.pdf (publicationethics.org) - AI Tools: We subscribe to the WAME and COPE position on AI authorship. Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Any use of AI in manuscript preparation must be disclosed in the acknowledgements.

4. Reporting Guidelines
To ensure completeness and transparency, authors must follow the relevant reporting guideline for their study type. The EQUATOR Network provides a comprehensive library of reporting guidelines:

Authors are encouraged to upload completed checklists with their submission.
5. Ethical Considerations
Research involving human subjects, medical records, or human tissue must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki.
All manuscripts must include:
- Name of the ethics committee that approved the study
- Approval reference number and date
- Statement that informed consent was obtained from participants
- Clinical trial registration number (for trials)
6. Open Access and Licensing
The Nigerian Dental Journal has been fully Open Access since January 2023.
- All new publications and archive materials are freely available to readers worldwide.
- All content is reusable under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) .
- Authors retain copyright without restrictions.
7. Article Processing Charges (APC)
- No submission fee
- APC: NGN55,000 (charged only on accepted manuscripts)
- This is the journal's primary source of funding.
- Note: Color figures may attract an additional fee. Authors will be notified if applicable.
8. Manuscript Preparation Summary
Please ensure your manuscript includes:
- Title page (separate file): Title, authors, affiliations, ORCIDs, corresponding author contact, conflict of interest, funding
- Abstract: Structured (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion), ≤250 words
- Keywords: 3–6 MeSH terms
- Main text: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion
- References: ICMJE (Vancouver) style
- Tables and figures: Numbered, with titles/captions
